Electoral College

No, I do not believe that the Electoral College is a valid way to elect the president today. I think this because maybe back when the founders created this system it worked because people back then didn't understand the whole political system and it was a good way for the candidates to not get cheated from just having popularity.
The Electoral College does keep everything equal which is a pro, but now in present time it's 2011 and we have tons of new technology which keeps us updated on all of the news about what's happening all over the world. This technology makes us capable of having the resources to understand the political system. Most people today also have college degrees, which even without technology we would still understand what goes on.
The Electoral College system seems a little old fashioned for this decade. I think people can now fully make a good decision on who they think should be president. People now can make their own opinions on what they believe is right. Considering the election in 2000 with Al Gore and George W. Bush, Al Gore won the popular vote but George W. Bush won the electoral vote and became president. The citizens obviously preferred Gore to Bush but Bush won because of the Electoral College system.

I do believe that we should change our views on the Electoral College, it may have its pros but its cons way pretty heavy too. A pro is that everything ends up equally worked out, but a con is also that it’s too ancient for the year of 2011. We need something new that would fit a booming country and a newer society. The Electoral College might have been good back in the 1800’s but now it’s the present and the Electoral College is the past and we need to move on from that.

            Again as I go back the election in 2000 you can see how the process established by the Framers of the Constitution worked. Al Gore was the leader in the popular vote but when it came down to the nitty-gritty George Washington came out victorious. Because of the Electoral College system he became president, because of that the system picked who they thought should be the president, which to me isn’t right, and that’s where I stand with this topic.

The Music of The Pearl

The last line in the pearl means that when the music started to fade that the evil was fading with it. The pearl symbolized the greed and evil in a town filled with oppression and the pearl just brought all of that to the surface. Once the pearl faded into the ocean you realize that's where it wanted to be all along and that the effect of a new perception on life towards the family was changing once again. This was something the family learned from, something when they realized that the pearl didn't belong in their hands and that it was back where it belongs. The effect the pearl had on the town was the oppression. You saw the oppression when you read the book, but it was never really out in the open, when Kino and Juana show the pearl to the town you see the greed and the arguments coming forward. The pearl showed anger and greed and evil, that was disguised as happiness and hope and luckiness that the family saw. You really start to see the evil in the actions of Kino and the change of personality of the family and everyone around them. As the pearl and music fades away into the sea the evil, greed and anger fades with it and the family is left with nothing, but the most important part is that they have the lesson to learn from.
